The curse of regret
upon me in my sleep
grating ranting cutting deep
the darkness settles, covers, creeps
it knows the secrets that I keep

and there laid open and alone
sobbing, sopping, naked, cold
they set upon me with a moan
they tear my flesh and gnaw my bone

I do not cannot try to hide
for these devils lurk inside
another part of me has died
the jaws of hell are gaping wide

sanity drips into the air
as I sink deeper, quivering, scared
my mind and soul at last despair
another night one more nightmare

my existance becomes pain
while my soul is slowly drained
dragged from me captured, chained
back to you, back to those days

and then at last though darkness reigns
I can see, glimpse through the haze
for just a moment the sun's rays
reflecting softly from your face

every night the torment worse
deeper darker to traverse
awake I'm desperate, fearful, terse
awaiting sleep, my nocturn curse

yet through all that night of sin
into the flames and pains again
I'll close my eyes and venture in
that I might yet see you again
