Walking home from the library two days ago, I felt strangely exhilarated by the weather.
The city is rain-swept under a late afternoon sky.
I’m smiling through dishevelled ribbons of brown hair,
Wearing a coat with embroidered flowers,
Feeling cold scarlet spread across my face.
I watch flying whitecaps on the muddied-jade lake,
Convinced that the next gust of wind will be strong enough
To lift me off the ground.
