A short free verse about slipping into a daydream.....
I put my toothbrush down,
And stare at my reflection in the mirror.
My mind drifts away.
Back,
To those chilly nights,
When we would drive around town;
My hair untamable like tidal waves,
Your eyes darker than the night outside.
Back,
To those evenings in the coffee shop;
Our own little world of coffee beans,
longing stares and hand holding.
Back,
To those afternoons
Crashing on my couch;
Your hands under my shirt,
And mine where they shouldn't be.
I come out of my reverie.
My breath fogs up the mirror.
I write your name with my fingertip,
And I smile
