a simple thought about Christmas with Grandma
Grandma frail and shrunken

Beat and broken by a fall

Surgeries, blood transfusions, congestive heart failure

a model through it all

Grandma struggled

lost her spirit and her focus

she didn't die after all the Doctor's hocus pocus

Grandma fought

she went to theraphy and ate meals in the common room

She could not forget the fight

that Grandpa fought

She thought she wanted to go to him in Heaven

But we stood beside her bed

We zapped her head and got her to thinking

She put one frail leg over the other

then before one could count she was stumbling

to the step and step ahead of her

She sleeps in the nursing home no more

She sleeps in her own bed at home and snores
