Entry for Inspirations poetry contest.
There are memories in my mind that do me no good,
Ghosts from my past that do not stay where they should.

I cannot hide from them nor can I escape.
They linger in the dark and choose my brightest thoughts to rape.

“You will never be good enough,” is what the majority of them say.
And then they silently wait to see if I will battle on or walk away.

Words should be simple and spoken from the heart.
But I have also learned that words can rip your world apart.

And no matter how old these memories grow with each passing year,
The wounds they first inflicted still remain raw and fresh with fear.

A fear that their whispers are true and they are only speaking as they should.
Yes, these are the memories that do me no good.
