The therapy of jump rope and poetry
There is Lucy, skipping rope;
She’s in her purple dress.
She likes to skip, it helps her cope
When her head’s especially a mess.

There she is, she’s twirling now,
Her face is but a blur.
Jumping faster she wonders how
The world around her became such a slur.

There goes Lucy, rope smacking the ground;
She asks god where her daddy went.
She wanted to hear him, just one more sound
Because without his voice, she feels quite spent.

There’s that Lucy, the neighbor’s say,
She’s jumping rope again.
It was really quite tragic that sad, sad day
When her father walked into the den.

They say the fire killed him fast;
He didn’t feel much pain.
But how long will this poor girl’s stupor last
Until she can see clearly again?

There is Lucy skipping rope,
Deep down she knows her daddy’s dead.
But little Lucy can never give up hope
Until she too, is in her deathbed.

There goes Lucy in her purple dress,
Only daddy can tell her heart’s a mess.
