A marine gunny has to keep a look out because he was told to do so.
Kneeling alone surrounded by both smoke and a foreign forest
Scanning the smoke to the right for any sign of the enemy
Fellow marines protected by the forest to the left
The lives of the many marines in the hands of a single gunny

The smoke so heavy
It takes so much not to cough and give the location away
So much anger for being the only one out in the open
The only one with their life on the line

Trying to be as still as a board
Not wanting an enemy in the distance to see the slightest movement
Wearing the Battle Dress Uniform
Trying to blend in with the surrounding forest

It is a Marines duty to do as he is told
A Marines duty to keep the lives of his men out of danger.
Semper Fidelis.
