Poem inspired by a Saturday night party.
The kiss burns insidiously down my mouth and throat
Running smoldering shame into my belly
Where it coats the inside of my stomach
like the perpetual dampness that covers the walls of a cave
It feels desperately close to the tequila shots
I imbibed minutes before with carefree abandon
Both the desperation and the ethanol run hot through my body
Spill in little pools on my cheeks
I can’t feel the regret
But the heat of it will linger longer than the numbness of drink
