A Shakespearean sonnet about the pain in finally letting go.

To dream of sun-soaked days and better years
Brings no respite to soothe my weary heart
For in my dreaming, hope is turned to tears
As truth proclaims our souls are now apart

I held your hand so softly for so long
And chased away your fears with tender kiss
So now alone, I sing our empty song
That draws me in to artificial bliss

To see those pale blue eyes light up for me
Or smell the subtle sweetness of your hair
Those places in your heart I long to be
Are locked away where you no longer share

But even to this day I love you so
So much that I shall dare to let you go
