A mother's message with love, but with no breath to speak.
                   "To Breathe Again"

my unconscious sucking sounds,
like little brittle bones in breath,
clawing and clanking to be released

silent screaming fills the void of reason;
absence of air assaults our conversations,
choking all confidences

your vicious sadness surrounds,
envelopes both of us on this ridiculous ride

how many times must we fall from each incline
and around every curve on this mind-bending,
heart-wrenching roller-coaster

parents claim the purpose to protect,
then pretend we aren't petrified

remembering love bends without breaking,
maternal strength in spirit
speaks past the impasse

upon awakening and dawning new thoughts,
peace comes with universal understanding

sighing is breathing, Son
