To Know You

How do I get to know you
when you keep me out of reach?
When I call you on the telephone,
it's time with you I seek.

        Let’s try again another time
in the next few weeks, you say.
We'll get together then, but when
will we ever find a more perfect day?

                  Someday soon you'll look around
                  and find that you're alone.
                  You'll wonder where I've been,
and where the time has gone.
But as long as there are minutes left,
and as long as you and I draw breath,
you can find me.  I hope you’ll find me.

We've danced this waltz so many times.
It's a strange sort of give and take,
always picking up where we left off.
But lately it's become a game of chase?

Between the calls, our lives go on.
So much lost between the telephone wires.
It doesn’t have to be that way
if we could carve out a little time.

I’m afraid someday I’ll look around
                  and find that I'm alone.
                  I’ll wonder where you've been,
and where the time has gone.
But as long as there are minutes left,
and as long as you and I draw breath,
I need to find you. Please let me find you.

As long as there are minutes left,
and as long as you and I draw breath,
I want to know you. I'll try to know you.
                              Please, let me in.

A More Perfect Day

How do I get to know you
when you keep me out of reach?
When I call you on the telephone,
it's time with you I seek.

         Let’s try again another time
in the next few weeks, you say.
We'll get together then, but when
will we find a more perfect day?

                   Someday soon you'll look around
                   and find you're all alone.
                   You'll wonder where I've been,
and where the time has gone.
But as long as there are minutes left,
and as long as you and I draw breath,
you can find me.  I hope you’ll find me.

We've danced this waltz so many times.
It's a strange sort of give and take.
On the phone, we start where we left off,
but sometimes it feels like an endless game of chase.

And between the calls our lives go on.
So much is lost between the telephone lines.
But we could share our daily triumphs and our trials
if we could just make a little more time.

I’m afraid someday I’ll look around
                   and find I'm all alone.
                   I’ll wonder where you've been,
and where the time has gone.
But as long as there are minutes left,
and as long as you and I draw breath,
I need to find you, now. Please let me find you.

As long as there are minutes left,
and as long as you and I draw breath,
I want to know you. Will you try to know me?
                              Please, let me in.

Note about structure: First indent is the bridge to the chorus.  The next indentions signify the chorus.
Verse
            Bridge
                          Chorus

Also, verses (and first four lines of chorus) are examples of Quatrains
which are four lines, often with a rhyme pattern of abab, abcb, or aabb but doesn't have to rhyme.
They can also be written in a string of quatrains such as in a longer poem or in lyrics of a song.

Distance

How do I get to know you
when you keep me out of reach?
When I call you on the telephone,
it's time with you I seek.

But you think there will be more time,
in the next few weeks, you say.
We'll get together then, but when
will there ever be a perfect day?

One day you'll look around
and find you're all alone,
and wonder where I've been,
and where the time has gone.
But as long as there are minutes left,
and as long as you and I draw breath,
you can find me.  I hope you’ll find me.

We've danced this waltz so many times.
It's a different sort of give and take.
On the phone, we start where we left off,
but sometimes it’s a ceaseless chase.

And between the calls, our lives go on,
silly moments missed, the tears are hid.
So much is lost between the telephone lines,
and nothing can bring those moments back again.

I know one day I'll look around
and find I'm all alone.
I'll wonder where you have been,
and where the time has gone.
But as long as there are minutes left,
and as long as you and I draw breath,
I want to find you. Let me find you.

As long as there are minutes left,
and as long as you and I draw breath,
I want to find you. Come find me.
Please, let me in.
