A man who had known only rejection finally finds acceptance and hope for the future.
The man sat in his prison cell,
Head bowed in despair,
All his life he'd been a misfit,
His feelings he couldn't share.

Now the inevitable had happened,
Justice had had its day.
He was locked up for a long time,
Out of harm's way.

There was a Bible in his room,
A dusty, mysterious book.
He'd nothing better to do with his time,
So he thought he'd take a look.

He'd heard of a man called Jesus,
known as the sinner's befriender.
'Could he even care for me,
The worst type of offender?'

He read how Jesus cured the sick
And raised a man who was dead;
And with a bit of fish and bread,
A multitude he fed.

He even had words of sympathy
For a woman in adultery caught;
'Could he my friend too?'
He tremulously thought.

That night during a restless time
A visitor appeared in the dark.
He spoke of sins forgiven
and making a new start.

The prisoner knew who his visitor was
And fell onto the floor.
As he listened to the words of love
He felt rejected no more.

All he could say was 'I'm sorry',
As he reflected on his life,
A wasted time, a selfish stance,
Days of trouble and strife.

He felt the touch of Jesus
And a warmth filled his heart.
A friend like this he'd never known,
This was a brand new start.
