A Villanelle.
Surrounded by a world of constant war,
No pathway taken leads to my release.
A tainted human flaw I must endure.

Despite the selfish spirit I abhor
I yearn to hear elusive songs of peace
Surrounded in this world of constant war.

In absence of harmonious rapport,
Suspicious nature's fated to increase.
A tainted human flaw I must endure.

All counteractive steps remain obscure.
Discouraged, we continue to police
Confounded by a world of constant war.

A sharpened stick won't make me more secure.
My need to hold the biggest gun must cease.
A tainted human flaw I must endure.

There must be still some undiscovered shore
Where hope can find a modicum of peace
Surrounded by a world of constant war
A tainted human flaw I must endure.
