Inspired by a 30 day road trip in an interstate Truck
Look at the map on my face, see all the lines;
These are the roads that I travel.
Interstate Highway and two lane roads
That lead to the places and so many faces
And all of the things I've  left behind.

But I brought along my memories;
and I think I’m doing fine.
But I feel so empty so hollow inside .
Though on different highways all;
Most truck stops seem exactly the same.

We blew a tire just South of a place called Chadron,
I grew up near here, We shopped here,
And I went to Music Festivals
Where bands from all around
Strutted their stuff, Marching on the street.

I ate a piece of pie at the Heritage Grille,
Strawberry Rhubarb, Hot! with ice cream.
Just like my grandma used to make.
Is it strange that my server
Looks like someone I knew, long ago?

I guess after being on the road so long
Everyone reminds me, of another time, of
Some other place or someone I once knew.
You can remember her face, the glint of her smile.
And though these many years have passed.
She can still smile, and bake such a pie that
It's taste still lingers, deliciously, on my tongue.

I’ve seen Oceans at sunrise and mountains in the rain
Sometimes I wonder if it’s worth all of the pain.
I’ve got grandkids to make it worthwhile,
Now I wonder what I can bring them
What can replace the time we have lost
When I was on the road.

But I’m out on the highway, hauling a load
Tomorrow, I’ll be somewhere else, it's a long time before I’ll be home.
On the phone I say "just remember I’m coming your way.
I miss you, I love you, and send you a kiss," "KISS sound!"
Every Day! Without Fail. Before Bedtime.

Look at the map on my face, see all the lines;
These are the roads that I travel.
