there's a beauty in this subtle poison
a glory in this forgetfulness
a freedom in this hopelessness
such fleeting relaxation

a respite from the toil
a reprieve from the worry
a release from the abuse
an unfortunate span

so short lived
briefly enrapt
the comforting clutch
of a temporary
escape
