In trying to understand and get to know more about another..
As if I’d ever see it coming
As if you’d even see it at all
It came through fast and turned so deep
A deepness that could reach 1000 feet under
Below the water on softer sand

I wondered if I could hold it
I wondered if I could take it with me
I tried to take it into my hands
But the minuscule pebbles fell back to ground
And all that remained
Was one tiny sparkle from a pebble that glistened
Brighter than the sun
Beating down onto these pale blue-green waters

I’m burning for air
As I’m rising to the surface I hear a distant hum
It’s banging in my head
It’s telling me to leave

This ocean is not my home. It’s far too deep and travels long
Long beyond the depths of time
But I beg to learn it.. I beg to see it shine

And I rise so high
Breathing deep
And as the warm dry air approaches
I can feel its suffocation
Like daggers to my throat

And I want nothing more than to dive back in
And soak up more of the glistening pebbles that lurk below
And the cool water against my body

And as it wraps itself around me I could feel its every pull
And the harder it pulls
The faster I could feel the push
And I think I may be leaving this island of mine
So very bruised and battered today
But never will it break me
For it never takes me in too deep
Without pushing me back to surface all too quickly

But it hit me
I left looking completely untouched
It pushed me out faster than I’d ever felt before
And back to shallow water is where I lay
Reminiscing on fleeting moments that plague my mind
Burning to figure out the reasons why

So here I lie on the cool wet sand
As waves wash over my face
And send chills down my spine
With a sparkle that’s followed and flowed
With every tug and every push
A sparkle that came from a pebble I may never find again
And as it glistens so bright in the shining sun
I could have sworn
For a second's time
I could have sworn
I saw the whole ocean
Within that one tiny sparkle
