This is a brief section from a book I am currently writing.
Excerpt from Standing Stones:

Letter from Deianeira:

I couldn’t save you from yourself, couldn’t hold on to what you longed for.
I couldn’t let you walk away from everything that meant so much to you.
I watched silently as you drifted away from me, too far for me touch.
I had left you so many years ago, without explanation, without saying goodbye.
Somehow, you found your way to her and did not look back.
I, too, had found a replacement for the void that was in my heart.
But the darkness that surrounds my soul will remain forever locked in place.
Forever knowing that you’ll never be mine again, never be in my life.
I can only leave you with these parting words in hopes that you’ll hear my cry:
“You’ll always be mine, no matter how far apart we may be, whether in this world or the next.
Here I am, left in silence.
No one can hear the pain that you have caused me.
I will no longer breathe life into this body.
I hope it makes you happy to know that I would die without you.
No matter what may come of this, you will never truly understand what you have done to me.
I hope she was worth it all, worth everything that you gave up.
Somehow I knew it was destined to go wrong.
It should have never come to this.
In my last waking moment I hope you will finally listen to me.
I loved you for so long, but you left me behind.
I shall now close my eyes for all of eternity.
