A phrase my mother used when we asked what we were getting for Christmas.
What will I get for Christmas, Mom?
What will be under the tree?
I'd like some roller skates, some paints,
binoculars so I can see.

I'll tell you daughter but please agree
you'll not share this with your brothers.
Santa will bring you a golden-new-nothing
to wear over your shoulders.

What do you think Santa will bring?
What gift will there be for me?
An erector set to build buildings tall,
or a bicycle just for me?"

I will tell you, my son, if you promise me
you will keep it from your sister.
Santa will bring you a golden-new-nothing
to wear over your shoulder.
