A poem about people left in a nursing home.
The Forgotten Ones

They are the forgotten ones
Who fought the war and won.
They fought so we could be free
Free from Hypocrisy
Free from what the Government
Thought we should be.

They now live in nursing homes
Days and Nights are spent alone,
They are the forgotten ones.

Dependency on others is in despair
Family and Friends
Are no longer there,
They are the forgotten ones

If you listen closely in the still of the night
You can hear their cries to God
Help me give up this final fight

If we can take a moment from our busy day
We could help brighten a dearkened day
We could offer an encouraging word
or
We could just listen and not have to be heard

They search for peace they fought so hard to win
The sound of silence their only friend
They are the Forgotten Ones..
