Looking at young mothers.
The soft beating of a little heart
I have touched
The soft skin as tiny fingers try to grasp my face
Those tiny hands exploring
Curious about the world and who they may become in it
I have heard it
The cries of a child being abandoned
For that child's screams speak from my own lips
Not just high pitched yells, but another language all its own
Saying "Please don't leave me"
I was that child, I am that child
I hear those screams again, but this time not from my own mouth
As I shut the door on another innocent child lost to this world
I'm just like her who left me
Another one not yet ready for motherhood
We're all still crying "Save me"
And the cycle starts again
