MOONLIGHT MONSTERS

The moonlight casts its eerie shadows
on the open fields outside our home,
revealing the ghastly moonlight monsters
that come out every late night to roam.

I watch from the safety of my window
as the monsters make their silent way,
coming ever closer to my dark window
to make me one of their evening prey.

And yet I feel no fright at all tonight,
for I know they are not really real.
It is all in my imagination, I'm sure,
just kids in their Halloweenish zeal.

The vampires and the mummies,
(and just perhaps the daddies too)
are looking for the treats, not tricks,
It's something these folks like to do.

Then as the moon shines even brighter
and the monsters are more clearly seen,
I realize that these are not the neighbors
and this is not some nightmare dream!

Oh, we mortals know of fear and anquish,
as no hard knocks come at our front door.
The moon soon hides behind the clouds
and they may get what they're looking for.

Beware the moonlight monsters who come,
who stare up to the window where we stand.
Those creatures of the night who are a fright,
will always wander throughout this land.
