Sometimes we hide our pain from others
What a pretty
Mask she’ll wear
Inviting smile
Skin so fair

Lips pale pink
Sweetly grin
Her voice is soothing
Like a violin

Those around her
Feel at ease
She’ll make them laugh
She aims to please

Her smile contagious
To those nearby
Will bring them up
If they should cry

Just don’t look
Into her eyes
You may see
What in there lies

Because when she
Is all alone
Pulls off the mask
The truth is shown

She hides it well
She plays the part
Inside she has
A bitter heart

It’s her secret
No one knows
How bad she hurts
The pain just grows

In the mirror
Her reflection speaks
As tears stream down
Her lonely cheeks

She thinks that others
Will not get
Why she hurts
So she won’t admit

How she suffers
In heart and mind
The bitter sorrow
She keeps confined

She hides it well
It’s quite a task
Her pain is hidden
Behind her mask
