"visible spaces...solely lit at night...from within...living quarters" - a poem about life
When life evolves into a superior love
For nature and its fresh, invigorating surroundings,
A homely cabin in the woods can offer
A sedately wholesome getaway
From the city and its suburban periphery.
But much like that human thing called love,
This rustic, log retreat maintains a host
Of less lively and extremely ordinary proclivities:
The inconsequential and dreary backwoods.

A place of constant solitude and rest,
These familiar and visible spaces
Are solely lit at night from within the living quarters,
By beams spanning a few feet
From the somewhat muddied and soiled windows and doors;
And so nearby that they do not pose
Any kind of immediate threat to the occupants
Of the comfy abode.

And so it goes with the spouses and significant others
Rooming together on these cold, desolate nights in the wild;
Entertaining each other and venturing out slightly further,
Warmed by the glow of their unique and wonderful union,
But likely aware of the dangers
Lying distances ahead
In these densely shrouded woods…
