Retaliation is a poison unto the giver and a freeing gift to the receiver
He put on his boots and grabbed the shovel.
Found just the right spot in all the rubble,
to send the pointed blade down deep
ignoring the tears that she did weep.

Further and farther he did go,
consumed by desire to see her woe.
Fueled by the anger hidden inside,
opening wounds, immune to the cries.

Her ravaged past was opened wide,
nothing left for her to hide.
To sooth his self-recrimination,
she paid the price, no small donation.

Innocent trust once more betrayed,
paths of doubt are deeply laid
upon the ground where he dug deep.
A promise never meant to keep.

As time goes by and rains fall down,
smoothing clear the soiled ground.
Seeds of hope, of life and dreams,
will find new roots between the seams.

With passing seasons and suns warm rays,
the tender blade sings out new praise.
New growth will come to fade and vanquish,
the spews of hate, the hurt and anguish.

One day will find her straight and strong,
Sad, broken woman completely gone.
Full of strength and hope again,
freed of the bondage of vicious men.
