a poem that came to me as I watched some kids and parents interacting
  ah, what fine examples
  we make today
  I observe
  as The Children play

  your father's Mike
  your's is Dave
  and I'm sorry son
  I will never know,
  most mother's now
  will say

  my father beats me
  mine "gentle" touches
uh, I don't really know him
  but my mom tells me
  I'll meet him
  some day

  ah, what fine examples
  we make today
  I observe
  as The Children play

  sorry he's not coming today
  but yours will tomorrow
  yeah, I know mom,
  your just not quite
  sure yet
  which lay

  I swear I didn't do it
  why the noises?
  stuck with mom again
  so mom?
  which guy we seeing
  today

  ah, what fine examples
  we make today
  I observe
  as The Children play

  she's always so quiet
  he put what? - where!
  he hates his mom so
  makes ya wonder
  will he regret it
  some day

  just leave me alone
  my dad uses it different
  " eeny- meeny- miney- mo
catch a tiger by it's toe"
" and you are not it"
  hurray!

  ah, what fine examples
  we make today
  I observe
  as The Children play

  don't like her boyfriends
  always outdoing to fit in
  why is he so mean
  such a bully at school
  getting into trouble
  all day

  all she wanted,
  was a prince
  beaten to death at 25
  what happened to momma
  her child
  will say

  ah, what fine examples
  we make today
  I observe
  as The Children play

  such a smart kid
  all through high school
  tried the different phases
  punk, rock, hippie, goth
  just got tired, blew himself
  away

  kicked out of school
  some girl got pregnant
  stuck around for awhile
then got tired of the bullshit
" sorry son, you'll meet him
  some day"

  ah, what fine examples
  we make today
  I observe
  as The Children play

  and so the story continues
  with their children
  and theirs
  who will put an end
  to this vicious cycle
  we must STOP
  and learn
  from the fine examples
  presented,
  let us observe
  as The Child still plays
