A rhyming acrostic about the wonder of winter, a Power Reviewers Group Contest entry
The Wonder Of Winter

The snow falls softly, not making a sound,
Hoar frost gleaming as it blankets the ground.
Evergreen trees drooping from the flakes' weight,

Winter has arrived on Mother Earth’s plate.
Old folks shiver from the cold wind's bite,
Not daring to venture out in the night.
Dreamers imagine their fondest desires,
Endless in number, fanning the fires,
Releasing their dreams as the day transpires.

On the roof ice drips, an icicle forms,
Flashing in the light, it slowly transforms.

Weakened by warm air, it falls to the ground,
In shards it shatters, forming a small mound.
New snowflakes drift down, the cycle repeats,
Tired of shoveling, men rest in the streets.
Exhausted they strive to re-enter,
Realizing at last, the wonder of winter.
