A Desert Dream
I lay awake under the stars
And yet I dream

The annual flooding rushes over me
Or so it would seem

My head rests on the irresistible silk
Of the Nile
But still I refuse its generous serenity

Some say the Sahara is a wonder
Others say she is a mystery
Or question why can’t she be both?
But I know better
A beauty?.... Yes
Mysterious?.... Of course
But deadly above all

Men have lost their sanity
At her sands
Playing her games
The Sahara giving false hope of what men desire
Or even slumbering to her songs at night

This, friend, is why I will not rest
In the Saharan bed
For I will be ever lost in the
         Saharan Dream
