A free verse poem about the Inevitable.
The inevitable—
it happens to every person.
I've run from it my entire life.

I'm doused in a trembling fear
of the eternal unknown
when the Inevitable knocks on my door.

Hopeless doesn't begin to describe
the despair and turmoil within
as I count the days approaching.

But he stares me straight in the face.
He's calling my name with his watch in his hand;
He knows the day, he knows the hour.

There is a time for every end.
I hold on to every breath.
If only there was something I could do.

I'm so scared. I don't want to go into the abyss.
What is beyond? What is the real truth?
Will my beliefs carry me through eternity?

He stands before me, his hands now outstretched.
It's my time now. I must leave this place.
This is the inevitable. I cannot fight it.
I will soon find out the truth in the unknown.
