I always loved the circus. This is about their struggles
The seconds before the show
They never change

The powdered masks and effeminate make-up
Are always waiting there
In front of the dim-lit broken mirror

They remind me of the circles
Walked by the masses
Of the decorated Elephants
After the heart stopping
Games of death played

By the strong legs
Of the tightrope walkers
And the money dancers
And those accustomed
To the trapeze

But never after the freak show
The crowd shall not
Be scared away

They remind me of the kids
Who use to laugh
Then they chuckled
They cried
And ran
And left

Times change with the wind
When they do all thats left
Is wishes and whispers

The kids on the carousel
Are all gone

The smiles and hearts
We touched left their souls behind
For us to romance and enjoy

And the seconds before the show
They never change
