A first poem
I see myself floating through life as a piece of driftwood in the stream
Allowing life's challenges and hardships to buffet me to and fro
Occasionally gaining the courage to reach out to the nearest rock
Although soaked to the core- refusing to be weighed down
Yet unable to maintain the belief I let go whining as the rain pounds down
Crying out "why me?"

I watch the shore for the fisherman solemn and strong who will pull me from my torment
Never quite understanding that he will never be able to save me

"Put your feet down!" You yell
"Reach out!" You plead
"You don't have to wait - you can reach dry land if only you'll try...try...try..."
Your words echo in my mind

Slowly my vision clears and for the first time
I see that I am free
Bathing in the warmth of the sun
I stand and gaze at all of the paths before me
I see you in the road ahead
I smile
And begin my journey anew
