This is a reflection of my emotions after a long, hard-fought and lost, political battle.
The night provides a cover
For the feelings that come in the day.
In the dark they lie down and wait to come out
and appear like a menacing monster to play
with our hearts and our minds and our feelings,
confronting us like a north wind,
biting into our spaces and spoiling any calm
we might feel as we go about our routines,
our work, any normalcy we try to have.
In the night they wait and they fester, planning to
Ruin the day, making plans to assault us when
There are so many others things we have to do.
In the night when we could be dealing with them
They seem to hover in a fog below us,
lingering and multiplying, making their plans
to turn our days into chaos, into crazy patterns of disarray!
For they know if they try to confuse us, if they act out while we try to sleep,
We just might resolve them, or iron them out, and
Put them aside for good.
So, instead they lie hidden until
The dawn breaks, until there are too many others that need us.
Others that need resolution RIGHT NOW, and we scream!
We cannot go on here; we cannot go on. We don’t know the answers,
We don’t know the way, and nothing gets done, no,
Nothing gets done, and our goals don’t get met,
And our future gets fuzzy, and we fail, yes, we fail
As the dark provides cover
For the feelings that come in the day.
It seems never ending, never ceasing, never over
For the dawn comes, the day breaks, and we are
No farther than we were the day before
In our journey to find it, the peace that we seek,
No farther, no farther, only deeper into the darkness
That provides the cover
For the feelings that come in the day.
Is there any way out?
Is there any way in?
It becomes a nightmare, a continuing nightmare,
That I’ll never finish what I need to;
That I’ll never know when the end has happened
Because I don’t even know when it began,
When it started.
The dark provides cover…..
Not the peace that I seek, not the peace that I seek.
