A dog faces the retreating sea
Golden were the sky and wetted sands when the sun,
Sole witness to the drama unfolding upon the beach,
Smiled at seeing a Retriever and his Shadow facing the western sea,
Daring it to come near, growling a warning at each wave
That died ever further from shore as the tide retreated.
