The Great Gatsby

The Great Gatsby is about a time in our history when morals and virtues where cast aside for money and fame. He held many parties and appeared to have many friends.  At his funeral in the book not one single person attended.

Women were nothing more than trophies and were considered clueless.
Unfortunately most women accepted that status with little complaint.
They were abused as well.

Jazz was the music of the speakeasies and illegal liquor was the drawing force and ran like water.

Crime was everywhere and fancy parties were the norm. Prohibition was a law but no one could really control it.

The characters are materialistic and superficial while living extravagant lifestyles.  Although it might have seemed exciting to the public, there was a dark side

The author Fitzgerald fell under the alcohol disease and died. As he created his novel he became disillusioned with the American dream.
