Excerpt from a book I am writing.
Normal?  What is “Normal”?  In my opinion, elementary in my thinking, normal was what everyone else was doing; what everyone else was feeling.  Fitting in, really, when it came down to it.  I wanted desperately to fit in.  Not in the stereotypical shallow, popular girl fashion, but in a more fundamental way – healthy and happy.  Yes, this is all I wanted because that is what I thought others had that I wanted the most.  Alas, since I was born sickly, this was not to happen, as I later came to realize, though I tried with so much effort to make it so.  Was this too much to ask for?  How come everyone around me received health and happiness with what seemed like no effort?  Luck, apparently, since I could see no feasible way this could happen otherwise.
