I Comfort My Human
      Jordan Anna
    25. July 2012
In Honour of Church

I watched you rise, already in tears
I know your pain, I know your fears
I see you tremble, and shake and shiver
Come, oh Human, please come hither

Let me comfort you today
Let me help take your pain away
Let me settle your aching eyes
Let me tend to the pain that you despise

I know you have pain, I know that you’re hurt
Please allow me a moment to flirt
With loving paws I knead you gently
I rumble you as I purr contently

I don’t understand the why of your pain
But I press my body to your eyes for you to gain
A little composure, a little love, a little hope
I hope it helps you learn to cope

At this time, I won’t ask for much
I won’t even ask you to sniff my butt
My only purpose is to help you feel better
As you burn the words that were in the letter

That letter from the doctor, there was no reason
For your body to attack you in an act of treason
But I will do the best I can
To rid you of pain, so you can stand

Oh Human, I’m sorry there’s no more I can do
But I must have done something, you’re getting your shoes
The pain must have eased at least just a little
Remember I’m here for you, to love and to cuddle.

*Author’s Note: My cat, Church, always seemed to know when I was in pain, when my eyes were really bad at any given time. She would press her side against my eyes and forehead, purring as if to massage away my pain. During those times, she never acted like a typical cat. She never acted for herself. It was always for me. Church passed away a few years ago but I think of her often, especially when the pain from the Orbital Myositis gets bad. She really was my treasure, a kindred spirit and I will always remember her.
