in class abstraction in creative writing
Standing in her
bathroom,
The quiet girl-next-door
stares with wonder
into the mirror

Surrounded by the
rich deep purple walls
She stands tall
like an East Texas Pine

What she sees
to her
resembles an elephant
doughy pink skin
soft and plump
like a marshmallow

What she sees
is not herself
What she sees
Sly like a fox
deceiving her
conflicting mind

She so desperately
wants to see herself
For the beautiful rose
everyone else declares
her to be.
