Yesterday's Makeup

Yesterday morning,
She woke up alright,
Thought everything,
Would be just fine.

She took a shower,
And did her hair,
Pulled on a sundress,
And looked at herself in the mirror.

Such an awful waste,
Didn't even bother
To wash it off her face.

For once she thought
She looked okay
She wouldn't let anything,
Get in her way.

But then she burnt her toast,
And spilled her coffee,
What was a good morning,
Was taking a turn, quite dreadfully.

As she expected,
Her day became a mess,
It'd only been a few hours,
and she was already beyond stressed.

The boy of her dreams broke her heart,
She failed a test,
And the cheerleaders teased her,
About the scars on her wrists.

She couldn't take it anymore,
She was done with this day,
She was so tired,
Of pretending to be okay.

By the afternoon she was back in bed,
Her hair a mess, Her eyes all red,
As usual, her good day had been shot,
“Why expect anything different?” She thought.
