                                    Little Girl Lost

Having  never known the luxury of being spoiled,
Sandee's story is one that needs to be told.
With dirty little face, with clothes always soiled.
A little urchin child ,left out in the cold.

She and her sister's mom died when Sandee was seven,
The victim of  a hit and run driver on Christmas day.
All she was told was that mommy went to Heaven
And she'd never be back, because she had to stay.

They were quickly shuffled off to an Aunt that was a stranger.
She was an aunt by marriage and her mom's brother had long since died.
The old house gave the young girls a sense of danger,
A feeling of  uneasiness inside.

Aunt Ethel did not seem too trilled for them to be there
And would not allow any questions about their mom.`
The coldness Ethel  emitted showed no willingness to share,
Whether it be love, or  the clothes they had put on.

She was quick to tell them that these clothes were her daughter's
And they better not get them dirty or pull one little thread.
She said if that happened they would remain in their quarters,
Eat bread and water and go naked instead.

This was a nightmare to two little girls deep in sorrow.
Their mom loved them dearly and did the best she could.
Even then they were tossed from pillar to post with no sure plan for tomorrow.
But at least with her they felt safe and warm as children should.

Ms. Ethels daughter was a grown woman now with a child of her own.
She was the apple of Ethel's eye with copper colored curls.
She was spoiled and haughty, hateful to the bone
And very resentful of Grandma's two new girls.

There was never a moment when it was not known  they never messured up.
Constantly in contrast of the one who considered them her rivals,
Always made to feel like the ugly ducks.
Forever blamed for any accidents or contrivables.

As the years went by,Sandee's inner child was crushed
While the granddaughter was always the queen bee.
Never allowed to show her emotions without being hushed,
The answers to all her questions hidden so she could not see.

The results of such treatment would follow her for the rest of her life.
Every decision she made was with doubt and low self esteem.
Her life was often filled with such pain and strife,
Aunt Ethels face spoiling every dream.

Aunt Ethel became more wicked with every breath she took.
Sandee's heart showed the scars of never belonging.
She felt that the story of her mother's death deserved another look
And the need to seek the answers for which she was longing.

Sandee was now a teenager and went to the city library.
There she found the newspaper about her mother's death.
She learned things she had never known and information that was contrary
To anything she'd been told as of yet.

Her death was classified as a murder with Aunt Ethel as a suspect.
Her uncle had been a rather wealthy man, leaving most of it to Sandees Mom.
Needless to say this left Ethel feeling angry and upset
Even though Ethel was adequately provided with a large sum.

There was not evidence enough to indict her
So for all these years she had escaped punishment.
By taking on two wards of the state, as their provider
She was rewarded hansomely by the government.

Sandee and her sister were heirs of their mother's estate,
Something else she had never known,
But since Ethel had adopted them, she controlled their fate.
With manipulation their money was gone.

Memories came flooding back as her mind released the evil it held.
You see, Sandee was with her mom the night she died.
There was an indelible memory of the face in the windshield
As she walked holding her mother's hand by her side.

No wonder when she met Aunt Ethel her heart felt such fear and dread.
Because she blocked the pain away and recognition
At that time nothing registered in her head.
Only grief and devistation.

The girls never received one dime.
Sandee died in poverty always with a feeling of doubt,
Always haunted by this heinous crime.
Her ashes sprinkled on the spot where her moms life was snuffed out.
