Love's knot clutched in her hand
Twist by twist fear wrapped the cord
around the throat of love
and the knot
meant to bind two hearts
turned red
with terror's blood.

Darkness concealed
his jealous act
and the cold damp earth
her grave,
now the only candle
that burns for her
is the flickering will-o'-the-wisp.

Dressed in white she haunts the night,
love's knot
clutched in her hand;
from dusk to dawn
she looks for him
seeking justice
or revenge.
