A poem that preaches no flowers, gifts, or chocolates on Valentine's Day - enjoy!
Think of the togetherness you share with your partner,
If you can, and feel the warmth of Valentine’s Day
In your vivacious dreams and undivided soul.

Most glorious couples celebrate their joyful unions
With lavish gift-giving and expensive dining-outs;
Some gents even give a huge and costly bouquet of roses
Or some other pre-arranged flower assortment,
While others bestow a beautiful box of chocolates
To engender their partner’s joy and satisfaction.

But even the slightest bit of humor and resolve
Can be a hundred times more pleasing
To your soul mate
Than one of these temporary keepsakes.

For a trip to the store or flower shop
Is but a yearly event in February;
And unlike birthdays and anniversaries,
It humbles and lessens the millions
Who are without a partner at the time.

A Valentine’s Day to remember
Is a day with neither begrudging guilt
Nor clueless ecstasy –
It is a time-honored vision:
Those youthful fortunes ripen
Into an age of love, respect, and deepest trust
Embraced by a couple’s timeless bond.
