Romantic poem using a maze as a metaphor. For the Musical Sentiments Poetry Contest.
I was lost the day you discovered me,
desolate, lonely, capable only of sorrow.
I was weaving through love
as if a maze with no solution,
crying harder at every new dead-end.
You offered your hand:
I didn't want to take it, not at first.
I thought I knew you;
surely I had seen your kind before.
But you were different, you were patient
and gave me something I never had before.
You gave me love.
You gently led me through my prison,
revealed an exit I hadn't been able to see.
Escape was just a few feet away,
and as I stood there in joyful tears,
you turned towards me and smiled-
sunlight in a cave without end-
and made me a promise:
Hold your breath, it gets better from here.
You'll never have to go it alone again.”
