A serious change in the jet stream.
I remember the day when we all looked on high
as we watched dogs and cats gently fall from the sky.
When I turned to my daughter whose face was a Wow,
in the limbs of the trees we heard arf and meow.

O the weather out here on the farm can enthrall,
but this beat any intensive summer rainfall.
For the precipitation was paw, fur and tail;
over there was a tabby--up there, an Airedale.

So I switched on the weather to get a report
and when I heard the news I just had to stop short.
He announced it quite glumly and with his regrets,
how the jet stream was now saturated with pets!

Several kittens and puppies were like make-believe,
while a classy French poodle alit on the eve.
Then we both looked out back where the mighty oak stood,
and there wasn’t a lack, for the pet-fall was good.

In the atmosphere stirring the clouds just for kicks,
was a Lassie-like collie and Labrador mix.
When some ominous thunderheads rumbled around,
a contingent of cats soon a-purred on the ground.

I then looked at my daughter and hurried outside
to watch beagle and dachshund and Persian abide.
Then I saw an odd mix of pets up on the roof,
and they kept staring up as if they were aloof.
