My Heart

My heart is like a closet
though there are no clothes inside
instead it's filled with all the things
I try so hard to hide.

The bottom is filled with sadness
bitterness and despair
perched atop my doubts and fears
with some worry stuffed in there.

Mistakes are on the hangers
in between the hurt and dread
I keep them tucked inside my heart
so they're not rampant in my head.

But there's someone special in my heart
it's not all filled with gloom
a ray of light in my darkest days
and I had to save him room.

He finds more good inside of me
than I could ever find myself
and there will always be a place for him
high on the upper shelf.
