From the darker side.
Another night of the damned.

And I,
one more light dancing on the horizon
marking the spot where hope,
and dreams,
fall over the edge
and beyond the field of view.

I lay sprawled across the pavement,
remains of a night
I’d rather forget, rear view
layers of snow buffering me from the cold.

Daybreak, nightfall, daybreak, nightfall,
and I still wallow in the pain
of a thousand starry nights
buried deep within the snow.
I haunch, stomach cramped,
and if I had a tail
it would be between my legs,
as I creep,
slither,
retreat from view.

I exist, sight unseen
in full view for all to see,
yet part of the background,
a grecian urn at the monuments base,
the underbrush within the urban forest –
city scape –
part of land and time beneath
trees of steel and glass.

Only the shadows know,
as I find respite
from the cold.
