The Hell Fire club is a notorious castle in Co Dublin
The hell fire club

The men who bastardised the passage tomb were doomed.
Built a “gentlemen’s” club where the once
Sacred ruins used to be
Using the ancient stone and mortar to
Assemble the house of heinousity.
Constructing their refuge from society
Above the Neolithic burial tomb.
Powerful, respected men
Who enjoyed the finer things in life
Chose Montpelier to plague with the curse.

Cries of pain and laughter echo through the ages
Down the heather stained hills and
Through the deep, murky lakes.
Screams of torment from the ones that they
Captured, offered and ate
Ring around the dilapidated estate.
The valleys were never the same
The birch had seen too much.
The spirits of the contributed inhabit them
The trees sway toward you when you
Approach the rumbles and shadows in the distance.

The men wear skeletal jump suits and top hats
Carry canes and their bones glow in the dark.
Long scarves fall off them and trail along the cobble leaving
Psychedelic neon symbols painted across the debris
Of the abandoned hunting lodge.
The women flaunt fangs
Wear tassels and capes, burlesque style dresses with
Thin straps that scrap their shoulder blades
Until sores appear.
Light transparent gloves disguise
Seductive hand movements and
Involuntary spasms.
Not resisting the music
Swaying they’re bodies like possessed puppets.
Eyes like euphoric black plates.

The autumn moon is dysfunctional behind
The enormous display of lamps and lanterns.
Multi coloured brimstone pathways.
Incandescence devours the darkness
As the bonfire scorches the earth in the centre of the assembly.
Flames flicker before the dancers .
The hills provide security and discretion and
The hell fire club provides appropriateness.

The dj controls the ceremony.
Perched on the alter
Before the great doors of the evil estate.
Resting a silver chalice on disintegrating foliage
A jagged blade against the neck of a stiff goat.
The faint applause can be heard in the distance and the
Music begins again.
The blood nourishes the children that
Carry the curse.
Mimicking the mayhem.
