We wait in the darkness, waiting to feed. (Entry for the 100 Words of Horror Contest)
We are all of one fractured mind, one splintered spirit, bound by the empty air and cold darkness. Our days and nights do not exist separate from one another. There is only the first second, and then the next, and the next, time always going forward into an extended tunnel of shadows and shaky breaths.

There is one flame, that disturbs and excites us, what we recall in a simple word, a subtle flick of our tongues against the roof of our mouth.

Desire.

She appears before us, elevated in the moonlight, frightened eyes seeking desperate escape.

Time to feed.
