the eternal love, and the transient life
FLICKERING LOVE

Of all the stories nature has said
One remains to be etched and read
The story of a firefly that fell in love
With a star in the skies, up above

It was a replica –his brighter self
Whose company he craved in its strongest sense
The moonlight gleamed amidst like tides
He decided to finally meet her, fly over to the skies

Deterrents in his paths there were many
But he had strong faith in his epiphany
The winds, the woods, the blooms, the brooks
Worried for him, blocked his way
But none of that would make him sway

He spoke to them of love and passion
The grief of silence, pain of separation
They warned him of his imminent end
But he focused on the time well spent
They made way tepidly and he flew high
Filled with hope to his love in the sky

He reached so high, gasped for breath
Above him, she gazed at his flickering health
The descent began, his light then dull
His wings were weak and his strength was null
He fell into the pond, into its depths he hid
The light had gone, but the love never did
