The leprechaun knew secrets there . . .
The leprechaun beside the school
would dance a jig a day;
he tapped his feet on tippy toes
as kids came out to play.

The children chased him endlessly
with faces sweaty red.
They tried to catch the little man
with curls upon his head.

The giggling girls and bumptious boys
were like a bunch of bees.
They chased the elf through clover fields
and under shady trees.

The leprechaun knew secrets there
of stories never told;
the yard beside the children's school
had coins of precious gold.

The lucky lore with leaves of four
hid treasure in the green.
The students trampled clover clumps;
the riches then were seen.

As children scurried back to class,
they left a barren site;
the leprechaun dug deep till dawn
then left with loot by light.
