An altruist attempts to alleviate the woes of the poor, but instead joins their ranks.
Again, again, they beg and plead.
Though where the seeds of sadness grow,
The tides of goodwill do not flow
With shining alms and singing glee.

Again, again, they beg and plead.
Tragedy rising here and there.
For how much longer can I care?
For how much longer can they need?

Again, again, they beg and plead.
I tell them all to get away,
But still they hunt me to my stay,
So soon I run and mount my steed.

Again, again, they beg and plead.
I see that I have caught the Plague.
Pulled from my mount; my vision vague,
Ire and hatred the crowds feed.

But now their calls I cannot heed.
Stripped of my clothes, stripped of my greed,
Into darkness my muggers lead.
And thus I join the scores of need.
