young boy too old to be here now
fun fun fun playing on the oldies station
staff sergeant big boots bright yellow buzzcut
he thinks
I'm sure he had a dad once just like I did
he looks like me or does he look like he did

mama says I should be here
do something with your life positive role model
baby killers home wreckers genocide I combat back
they robbed me of my manhood
of my man
of my dad
now I'm supposed to make it all better

young boy too old to be here now
the radio plays the staff sergeant speaks
and he can't hear a thing it's all a crackle
except his dad singing fun fun fun in seventy one
a few months before vietnam took him away
